Mulberry's Music ProgramMusic is an important element of the Waldorf curriculum. According to Rudolf Steiner, the human being is a musical being, and the making of music is essential in experiencing what it is to be fully human. Music in the Waldorf curriculum awakens and nurtures the deep inner life of the child.

Choir & Singing
Singing at Mulberry begins early in the Parent & Infant Program and continues through the grades. Singing rounds begin in Grade 3 and harmony is introduced in Grade 5.
Children in Grade 4 and up meet once a week to sing in a larger group and to further improve their abilities. Margaret Moncrieff, a former teacher at Mulberry, is teaching choir this year. Families and the community will have a chance to hear the choir sing at school assemblies and at Rideaucrest Home, a local non-profit long-term care facility.
Recorder
Recorder begins in Grade 1. Alto recorder is introduced in Grade 5 and tenor recorder is introduced in Grade 6.
Music Notation
Music notation is taught in Grade 3 at Mulberry Waldorf school.
Violin
In Grade Four, all children begin two years of violin lessons. First they learn the basics of how to hold the instrument. Soon, they can play the notes of simple songs like "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and, eventually, they play group pieces in harmony.
